Pediatric RPN Psychotherapy at Milestones

Rehabilitation Psychology/Neuropsychology (RPN) at Milestones provides psychological care to children and adolescents who have neurodevelopmental diagnoses, complex medical profiles, or acquired brain injuries. These patients and their families often encounter emotional, behavioral, and social challenges throughout development. Concerns may be particularly acute in the months after a diagnosis, but children can also encounter challenges when they transition to a new developmental phase or other life transition. For example, an adolescent who sustained a traumatic brain injury as a young child may encounter new social and emotional challenges in their teen years as differences are highlighted when peers begin to drive, date, or hold part time jobs.

Patients and their families may also identify specific behavioral concerns related to their diagnosis. Cognitive and behavioral strategies to better manage target behaviors offer opportunities for growth and greater independence. RPN promotes healthy development through individual and family psychological services. RPN services may include:

  • Age appropriate education regarding injury, illness, or impairment
  • Behavioral strategies for targeted concerns and to promote optimal levels of independence
  • Assessment /treatment of emotional and behavioral reactions to impairments and disability
  • Assessment/treatment of behavioral concerns at home, school, or other therapies
