Spine & Back Pain

The goal of the Spine Program is to provide excellent, evidence-based spine and pain management care through our nationally recognized clinicians, researchers, and therapists.

We keep our patients moving quickly through the system as well as keeping them physically moving. Patient self-efficacy - being a part of their treatment program and taking care of themselves - is a key treatment philosophy and we focus on the biopsychosocial model and biomechanical management of back pain.

We also focus on function from the patient’s point of view. Knowing our patients is critical in establishing what the functional goals of treatment will be, whether it’s getting back to walking, playing with grandchildren, or playing golf again. A focus on belief system change and long-term behavioral management is key for our providers.

Through the Michigan Medicine Comprehensive Musculoskeletal Center and strong collaborations with Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and NeuroSport provides patients with specialized care in a timely and focused manner. For patients with acute or urgent needs, primarily from neurosurgery and the emergency department, we provide timely, effective evaluation and treatment through the FastBack program.
