Annual Events

Collaborating in Action

The Department of Learning Health Sciences is dedicated to creating a space for collaboration at all levels. We offer various events throughout the year to bring together stakeholders interested in improving how we learn and how what we discover may be applied to making improvements at all levels.

We invite you to check out our events and welcome you to participate as an attendee or presenter.

Health Professions Education Day

Many of our educators work collaboratively through the U-M Center for Interprofessional Education to develop and teach novel courses focused on interprofessional health education. Health Professions Education Day is an annual event that brings together faculty, students and staff from the 10 health science schools across the University of Michigan’s three campuses to share best practices for interprofessional education and collaborative care.

Ethical, Legal and Social Implications (ELSI) of Learning Health Systems Symposium

The ELSI symposium seeks to develop a new community of practice to form a cutting edge research agenda that raises critical questions in ethical, legal and social implications of learning health systems. Sessions include faculty presenters on ethics, equity, engagement, and law and policy in practice.

Roland "Red" Hiss Lectureship

The Roland "Red" Hiss Lectureship honors the legacy of Roland “Red” Hiss, M.D. (1932 - 2016), Professor of Internal Medicine, Professor and Chair of Medical Education (now the Department of Learning Health Sciences), and Director of Extramural Education in the University of Michigan Medical School. In honor of Dr. Hiss’ passion for continuing medical education, the annual lectureship is intended to share innovations in medical education, provide Michigan Medicine faculty with an opportunity to discuss their work and interests with a national expert, and enable faculty to share advances taking place at Michigan Medicine with the visiting scholar.

Brown Bag Series

Department of Learning Health Sciences faculty present their latest research and/or share best practices in the weekly DLHS Brown Bag Series.

The Clinical Simulation Center presents a separate monthly Brown Bag Series to promote collaboration and best practices in simulation-based education and research.

Both Brown Bag Series are open to all University faculty, staff and learners.
