Anna Michmerhuizen is a fifth year PhD candidate in the Cellular and Molecular Biology program. She is also a trainee in the Training Program in Translational Research. Before beginning in the Program in Biomedical Sciences (PIBS) in 2017, Anna graduated with honors from Calvin College with a B.S. in Biochemistry and a minor in Public Health. As an undergrad, Anna worked on multiple research projects at Calvin, and she was named a Goldwater Scholar in 2016 for the work she did in Dr. Douglas Vander Griend's lab studying the complexation of triazolophane with anions in solution. Anna also took part in a summer undergraduate research fellowship (SURF) program at the Mayo Clinic in 2016. In the Speers lab, Anna is studying the role of hormone receptors in the radiosensitization of breast cancer.
