Carolina B. Sierra López, M.D.

Class of 2022
Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine

I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory that measures 100x35 miles approximately. I found my interest in medicine by completing a summer medical program for talented students by the Dr. Garcia Rinaldi Foundation. Being Valedictorian of my high school class, I decided to pursue a different environment and moved to the beautiful coasts of Maine. I went to the University of New England in Maine and received a B.S. in Biology. I had the opportunity to coordinate different medical mission trips to Latin America like Peru and Ecuador. I went back to Puerto Rico to finish my M.D. at the Universidad Central del Caribe. While studying medicine, I continued to work with underserved populations in a student-run clinic for the homeless and in community health programs. I was very active with our regional AAFP and FMIG, which has solidified my love for Family Medicine. There is a certain challenge that comes with treating a variety of diseases and patient populations. I decided to rank the University of Michigan Family Medicine program as my number one as it provided me the opportunity to continue to work with a Hispanic population while being exposed to great learning opportunities provided by an academic program with community medical facilities. The faculty and House Officers have all been very welcoming and devoted to our professional growth.

Outside of work, I enjoy hiking and being outdoors, reading a good book, traveling and trying to improve my limited French. Also getting to know all the different restaurants, museums and activities that Ann Arbor has to offer!
