Adaptive sports and fitness are competitive and recreational activities for individuals with and without disabilities. Participation in these activities provides a way for individuals to be physically active and improve their health. Our team has created a list of adaptive sports and fitness resources from national, Michigan, and Ann Arbor-based organizations.

Ann Arbor Organizations

Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living
A center operated by people with disabilities that provides recreational and community enrichment activities and events.

Ann Arbor Inclusive Rowing Club
Offers specialized rowing programs for veterans and adaptive programs with physical and cognitive impairments.

Ann Arbor Recreation and Education
Offers adaptive programming for children and adults with disabilities in Ann Arbor and surrounding communities.

Therapeutic Riding, Inc
Provides several types of equine-assisted activities throughout the year for people with disabilities and other challenges.

University of Michigan Adaptive Sports
“Our program aims to increase awareness about, knowledge of, access to, and participation in adaptive sports and fitness among people with and without disabilities at the University of Michigan and in the greater Ann Arbor community.”

Kentwood Adaptive Recreation
Hosts year-round adaptive recreation programs to provide creative, social, and educational opportunities for individuals with physical and developmental disabilities. Programs include but are not limited to inclusive kayaking, adaptive pickleball, and adaptive bowling.

Mary Free Bed Wheelchair and Adaptive Sports
Offers recreational opportunities to individuals with disabilities across the lifespan.

Michigan Adaptive Sports
A local chapter of Move United that offers recreational programs and events to individuals of all ages and a wide range of disabilities.
