Biography

Dr. Joy Obayemi is a general surgery resident at Michigan Medicine. She attended the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania after completing her undergraduate studies at Stanford University. Prior to medical school, she served as a Fulbright scholar in France, completing a French Master's program in interdisciplinary social sciences and defending her thesis on the effects of cultural diversity on patient care in the French healthcare system.

Dr. Obayemi has clinical interests in transplant surgery and global surgery and her research interests revolve around health equity, the sociology of the healthcare environment, improving surgical capacity in Sub-Saharan Africa, and racial and ethnic disparities in patient care and outcomes.
