One of our primary missions is to advance education and training to improve the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of nephrology disease.

Fellowship Training Programs

In addition, Michigan Medicine has a Transplant Hepatology Fellowship and an Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship, which are offered through the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Division.

Conferences and Continuing Medical Education (CME)

The Division of Nephrology holds weekly clinical and research conferences. The majority of these activities are available for physicians to earn CME credit. The University of Michigan Medical School is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. As an accredited CME provider, the Medical School can designate AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ for university activities that meet ACCME requirements.

  • Tuesday conference: Didactic in nature with topics covering the span of the nephrology curriculum by the faculty
  • Wednesday conference: Typically a two-hour meeting with research talks by faculty, visiting professors, as well as clinical case presentation by the fellows. Morbidity and mortality presentation, quality improvement topics, medical ethics, renal pathology, as well as journal club topics are all represented in this meeting
  • Thursday conference: Takes place at the U-M Kidney Epidemiology and Cost Center and typically focuses on epidemiology, health care policy, and biostatistics
  • Internal Medicine Grand Rounds: Department-wide grand rounds; features a wide range of topics in medicine

In addition to our weekly clinical and research conferences, we also offer community health care professionals the opportunity to learn the latest advances in kidney disease at our annual Updates in Nephrology for the Primary Care Physician CME course. Please see the Department of Internal Medicine CME Course Calendar.
