Training Summary by Year

Year 1

Clinical Training

  • Inpatient Consult Service (8-10 months)
  • New Patient Clinic (once weekly)
  • Pediatric Rheumatology Continuity Clinic(s) (1-2 half days per week)
  • Review/triage new patient referrals (during on service weeks)
  • Perform joint taps for continuity patients and patients whose procedures are done in the procedure room with sedation (as possible within the limitation of other responsibilities)

Research Training

  • Identify research mentor and general focus of research project
  • Form Scholarship Oversight Committee (SOC) and schedule first SOC meeting.

Meetings/Conferences

  • American College of Rheumatology (ACR, fall)
  • Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA, spring)
  • Pediatric Rheumatology SYMposium (PRSYM) (spring, if occurring that year)
  • University of Michigan Pediatric Research Symposium (spring)

Teaching

  • Present at Adult Rheumatology Grand Rounds (once each year)
  • Present at the General Pediatrics Core Conference Series (once each year)
  • Present at the Pediatric Rheumatology Journal Club (2-4 times per year)

Years 2 & 3

Clinical Training

  • Supplemental Subspecialty Clinics at the discretion of the fellow
  • Perform joint taps for continuity patients and patients whose procedures are done in the procedure room with sedation (as desired and possible)

Research Training

  • Work on research project, with goal of submitting a manuscript before graduation
  • Schedule SOC meetings (minimum of 2 each year)
  • Research Presentation to Pediatric Rheumatology Division (once each year)
  • Other research presentations depending on specific project and setting

  • American College of Rheumatology (ACR, fall) – if presenting
  • Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA, spring) – each year
  • Pediatric Rheumatology SYMposium (PRSYM) (spring, if occurring that year)
