Clinical Rotations

Below is an outline of the rotations residents complete during each year of training. We operate on a block schedule; each residency year consists of 13 four-week blocks with each resident given 4 weeks of vacation per year. 

 

 

 

 

 

House Officer I

  • Anesthesia and Surgical Clinics (1 block) - An outpatient rotation through the general and subspecialty surgical clinics in addition to a one week pediatric anesthesia experience practicing procedural skills.
  • Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics (1 block)
  • Inpatient Pediatrics (5 blocks) - Inpatient rotations include either two-week or four-week blocks on general and subspecialty teams. Subspecialty inpatient services include cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, genetics, nephrology and pulmonology.
  • Inpatient Coverage (0.5 block) - Additional half block on inpatient wards, nights, or newborn service depending on service needs.
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (1 block)
  • Newborn and Delivery Room (1 block)
  • Night Team (1 block)
  • Pediatric Emergency Department (1 block)
  • Professional Development Week/Continuity Week (0.5 block) - Interns spend a dedicated week in their assigned continuity clinic week. Interns also have a week for professional development including personal appointments, nurse shadowing, creating a chalk talk, and completing administrative tasks.
  • Vacation (1 block) - Interns will be allotted 4 weeks of vacation divided into two 2 week vacations throughout the year.

House Officer II

  • Electives (4 blocks)
  • Inpatient Senior Resident (3 block) - Senioring opportunities include general inpatient teams, sub-speciality inpatient teams, and/or additional night team, PICU, NICU, or newborn coverage depending on service needs.
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (1 block)
  • Night Team (0.5 block)
  • Pediatric Community Health and Advocacy (1 block)
  • Outpatient Adolescent Medicine (1 block)
  • Pediatric Emergency Department (1 block) Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (1 block)
  • Vacation (0.5 block) - Residents will have an assigned two-week block vacation and can choose two 1 week vacations during elective time.
