I am from Perham, MN, a very small town in the middle of nowhere. I attended the University of Minnesota Duluth for undergrad, and the University of Minnesota for medical school. I met my husband, Doug, during my undergraduate years and we were married during my first year of medical school. Doug and I are expecting our first baby very soon! Outside of medicine, I love any and all outdoor activities. I grew up by a lake in rural Minnesota, so I love to go fishing, camping, hiking, and exploring! I am a Minnesota sports fan all the way (Go Twins! Go Vikings!). I also love to travel and have an interest in global health, I usually plan a trip outside of the USA at least once per year. When the weather forces me inside, I also enjoy cooking, baking, and reading.
Why I Chose Michigan
I chose Michigan for many reasons, although one of the most important qualities to me to investigate on interview day was the happiness of the current residents and the overall feel of the program. Everybody was so welcoming, and there was such a great sense of community during my visit. The academics and opportunities for research rounded out the important things on my list. I also enjoyed the city of Ann Arbor, and my husband and I are so excited to explore Michigan with our new baby!
